Balikaru is not an activity center that you could find anywhere in Bali – Balikaru is part of the village at the foot of Mount Batukaru. The residents have welcomed us into their community, they are passionate about it and happy to be part of the Balikaru family. They have close ties to the region and are proud of their village and of sharing their daily lives with you, introducing you to ancient Balinese traditions. They will show you their traditional way of life, which is still based on the lunar calendar – as it was centuries ago – and is strongly influenced by the seasons and nature.
All Balikaru activities focus on the idyllic village, the beautiful nature on the edge of the Batukaru volcano and are actively influenced by the villagers.
They are part of our Balinese cooking school, show you traditional techniques or share their extensive knowledge of herbs and spices with you at our Herb Academy in the Balikaru Garden. They reveal traditional family recipes when it comes to making a healthy Jamu drink and they know the exact effects of the individual medicinal herbs. On a walk through the village, you will be invited into the home of a Balinese family and learn a lot about everyday life and traditions in the Balinese family.
The Balikaru blessing and purification ceremony takes you into the world of spirituality in a very special place. The priest will take you to one of the most sacred temples in the village, hidden in the jungle and surrounded only by beautiful nature.
But Balikaru is much more than that and our trekking tour takes you through the rainforest area on Mount Batukaru, through the lush, tropical landscape. You will learn what it means to live in harmony with nature – a characteristic that many people have lost, but which is still inherent in the people in the village.
